Q:
What is the advantage of having a transaxle drive system?
A: The two major advantages are that it's fully enclosed and that it’s a direct drive system, gear-to-gear. When a drive system isn't totally enclosed, dust, dirt or other debris on the floor can get inside and cause a failure. A totally enclosed transaxle drive system is protected from these elements. Being totally enclosed with lubricant also keeps the drive system cooler and makes it quieter. Protection from debris and cooler operation mean a transaxle drive system can run longer without costly repairs or breakdowns. And because it’s a gear-to-gear design, a direct drive system generates a large amount of torque providing a heavy load carrying capacity. A totally enclosed transaxle also eliminates the use of chains and belts, which are noisy and can slip. The totally enclosed transaxle drive system found on EZ-International’s (EZI’s) products provides virtually maintenance free operation. It also allows greater weight carrying capacity and provides longer product life.

Q: Are all direct drive systems maintenance free?
A: No. Only totally enclosed systems (like transaxles) are maintenance free. The configuration of some non-transaxle drive systems may be considered "direct drive," but they don’t keep the system free from outside elements such as dirt, dust and other debris. Totally enclosed direct drive systems, like the transaxle found on all of EZI’s products, offer truly maintenance free operation – increasing reliability and decreasing downtime.

Q: What is the life expectancy of a transaxle drive system?
A: It can depend on the amount of service and abuse the drive system is subjected to, but the transaxle should remain in good operating condition for the entire life of the EZI product. Long life and lower maintenance costs are ensured on each EZI product through use of dependable transaxle drives and 24-volt electrical systems.

Q: What are AGM batteries and are they maintenance-free?
A: The Absorbed Glass Mat battery is a unique type of battery ideally suited for use in small electric-powered vehicles. Using the latest manufacturing technology, Absorbed Glass Mat batteries are designed to provide long service life, are spill-proof, non-corrosive, and are maintenance free. They are designed to meet or exceed the IATA/ICAO Special Provision A67 requirements, DOT-CFR Title 49 parts 171-189, and IMDG Amendment 27.

Q: What is auto-test and auto shut-down?
A: The battery charger on EZI’s products has a feature that detects when the battery is fully charged and automatically shuts itself down. When the charger comes back on and detects that the battery is still fully charged, it shuts down again. So it is an auto test as well – automatically turning itself on and off. Having this capability means the battery will always be properly charged and perform at its peak level. This feature also allows EZI products to remain plugged in all the time when not in use (in most store applications, however, electric shopping carts are typically plugged in at night and unplugged, ready for use in the morning).

Q: What is dynamic regenerative braking on electric shopping scooters?
A: Regenerative braking lets the motor act as a generator, converting the vehicle's momentum into electricity. So, when the throttle is released, the motor becomes a generator, slowing the scooter. Since it takes energy to make energy, the vehicle's momentum is consumed and the vehicle slows.

Q: Can my Mini-Shopper carry the basket my store supplies to our customers?
A: Yes. EZ-International offers an optional accessory that allows use of your store’s hand-carry basket instead of the Mini-Shopper’s standard wire basket. We can also customize your Mini-Shopper or EZ-Shopper in other ways. Please call us for details.

Q: What are the advantages of the suspension system on the Pony Express?
A: When the Pony Express cart is traveling on an uneven surface, like a loading dock or a ramp, the suspension system reduces and/or eliminates the dangers normally associated with manual carts that lift off the ground. This is particularly true when a large amount of weight is placed on the cart and it’s going up a ramp or over small bumps, applications where a set of wheels might suddenly be lifted off the ground. The Pony Express’ suspension system is a standard safety feature that prevents this from occurring.
